Now there is a bill making its way through the Colorado Senate that could save motorcyclists’ lives. It’s called the “Use of Electronic Mobile Devices While Driving” Bill (SB 2019-012) and it is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Transportation & Energy Committee on Thu, Jan 24th.
Mark Miklos and Rob Tompkins have been buddies and bikers for over a decade. For many years, they talked about “one day” opening a biker bar together, so when a local bar in Golden, CO went on the market, Mark and Rob needed very little convincing to jump in with both feet.
Motorcyclists are getting hurt and killed on Denver’s roads. It’s a fact. It’s a tragedy. It’s unacceptable.
But it’s nearly impossible to figure out how bad our streets are because the city of Denver hasn’t built an interactive map that allows you to look at accidents street-by-street.
Many of Colorado’s car drivers only carry the bare minimum insurance required by Colorado law, which is $25,000. For many bikers, that won’t even cover the cost to replace their bike. And sadly, most motorcycle accidents result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills.
